Reverse Phone Lookup- Find Out Who Owns That Phone Number! We have all had them at some point. That stubborn
wood door that hangs up instead of opening up. The
following steps will show you how to fix this problem
with minimal tools and effort.
Difficulty: Easy
Things You Will Need:
Nails
Hammer
Nail Set or Punch
Wood Putty or Spackling
Putty Knife
1 Grab your hammer and a few finishing nails about an inch and a half long.
Determine the area where the wood door rubs the door frame. Most times you
can spot this easily by watching the door and the door frame as you open it.
Look at the gap between the door and the frame, from top to bottom. The gap
will disappear as it nears the trouble spot.
![]() 2 Once you find the area that rubs, open the door and mark the spot on the wood
door frame. Be sure and tap the pointed end of the nail with your hammer to
blunt the sharp end so it won't split the wood. Drive the nail into the wood door
frame until the head is nearly flush with wood.
![]() 3 Take your punch or your nail set and place it square on the nail head and hit it
with your hammer until the nail head is slightly sunk into the wood. See if the
door will close without rubbing the door frame. Depending on the severity of
the rub or if it rubs in more than one place, you may have to repeat this
procedure.
4 Once you have the door frame pulled in with the nail(s) enough for the door to
clear the frame when it closes just take some wood putty, spackling, or caulk
and fill the area at the nail head smooth with the wood and let dry. A carpenter
from the old school taught me this and I have successfully used it numerous
times.
